Over the past two decades, Dan Freene ACS has captured nearly 5,000 faces through his lens, each one a testament to his deep passion for portraiture. His work is defined by a remarkable ability to find the ideal light and most flattering angle for every subject, regardless of the setting or circumstance.
Dan's true artistry lies in his talent for capturing the subtleties of a person's gaze, the fleeting expressions that reveal their inner world. He strives to distill the very essence of his subjects into a single frame, creating portraits that resonate with viewers on a profound level. His images invite you to feel an intimate connection with the person before you, as if you truly understand their story in that exact moment.
This relentless pursuit of authenticity and connection is what fuels Dan’s ongoing dedication to the art of portrait photography. Each photograph is more than just an image; it's a window into the soul, a moment of truth that Dan expertly captures, making his work both timeless and deeply impactful.
Dan Freene ACS captures spaces and places with the cinematic eye of a seasoned filmmaker, transforming everyday scenes into moments straight out of a movie. As a multi-award-winning, ACS-accredited cinematographer who collaborates with some of the world’s top directors, it’s no surprise that Dan brings a filmmaker's vision to his photography.
Dan is particularly drawn to locations steeped in nostalgia and atmosphere, places that evoke a deep sense of mood. While others might relax on vacation, Dan is the one you’ll see braving a snowstorm at dawn, camera bag in tow, eager to capture the perfect shot.
Mimi Kelly is a controversial photomedia artist and writer currently completing a PhD by research. Her practice and writing engages with anxieties provoked by, and agency evoked through, the female body as a converged site of the highly aesthetic and that which is somehow other to it – from the uncanny to the grotesque. Her research area focuses on body politics at the intersection of queer theory and third-wave feminism, fashion theory, and theories of the grotesque and perversion.
Dan Freene ACS has been her long time collaborator and photgrapher.
